Kansas Nursing Student Scholarship Program -- up to $3,500 (R.N), $2,500 (LPN)
Annually the Kansas Board of Regents and sponsoring hospitals (including Hays Medical Center) jointly fund the Kansas Nursing Student Scholarship Program, which offers scholarships for students studying to become registered nurses or licensed practical nurses. Scholarship amounts may vary due to legislative appropriations.

An applicant must be a Kansas resident who has been accepted to and is enrolled full time (12 semester hours) in an eligible Kansas post-secondary institution. Completed applications and associated materials must be submitted to the Kansas Board of Regents. The sponsorship application deadline to Hays Medical Center is May 1st.

A recipient is required to complete one year of employment at Hays Medical Center after attaining appropriate licensure as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. An application for the Kansas Nursing Student Scholarship Program can be obtained through the Hays Medical Center human resources department or by contacting the Kansas Board of Regents at 785-296-3518.

Bert Anderson, M.D. Scholarship -- $750
The Bert Anderson, M.D., Scholarship is funded through a trust established in 1974 by the late Victoria, Kansas physician, Dr. Bert Anderson. This scholarship is awarded annually in May to a nursing student pursuing a registered nursing degree.

All application materials must be submitted to the Hays Medical Center human resources department. The application deadline is May 1st.

Judy Folsom Scholarship -- $1,000
The Judy Folsom Scholarship is a scholarship established by Hays Medical Center in honor of Judy Folsom for all her years of contribution and dedication to the Medical Center. This scholarship is available to be awarded to students, who are currently pursuing a registered nursing degree and attending Fort Hays State University or North Central Kansas Technical College. A recipient may reapply and be awarded a second scholarship in the period following the initial scholarship. A recipient is required to complete one year of employment at Hays Medical Center after attaining appropriate licensure as a registered nurse.

Norman E. Hull, M.D. Scholarship -- $600
The Norman E. Hull, M.D. Scholarship is funded by the Hull family. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student, who has declared a healthcare major as a college junior or higher classification and is attending an accredited four-year college or school of higher education in Kansas. A recipient may reapply and be awarded a second scholarship in the year following the initial scholarship.

All application materials must be submitted to Hays Medical Center's human resources department. The application deadline is May 1st.

The Roelfs Scholarship -- $2,000
The Roelfs Scholarship is funded privately by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Roelfs of Stockton, Kansas. This scholarship is awarded annually in May to a student, who is entering (or currently enrolled in) a nursing degree in the upcoming fall semester at Fort Hays State University and North Central Kansas Technical College (Hays, Kansas).

All application materials must be submitted to Hays Medical Center's human resources department. The application deadline is May 1st.

Karen Schuvie Scholarship -- $500
The Karen Schuvie Scholarship is funded by the family of the late Karen Schuvie, former Director of Medical Records at Hadley Regional Medical Center. This scholarship is available to be awarded annually to a student, who is pursuing a degree in a healthcare field.

All application materials must be submitted to Hays Medical Center's human resources department. The application deadline is May 1st.

Hays Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship
The Hays Medical Center Auxiliary funds scholarships for students pursuing degrees in healthcare professions at Fort Hays State University and North Central Kansas Technical College.

The scholarships are administered by the respective schools -- applications are available from the financial aid departments at these schools and awarded based on recommendations from the respective schools on financial need, academic achievement, faculty references, leadership potential and career goals.

Hays Medical Center Education Loan Assistance Program
The Education Loan Assistance Program (ELAP) provides loans to students, current Associates who are completing their final year of education, or newly graduated students for which Hays Medical Center anticipates immediate or future staffing needs. In return for the loan, the recipient signs an agreement.

Students/newly graduated students will be considered based on the following criteria: a GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) in related course work, and two (2) letters of reference from faculty members, proof of financial need (student loan) and an agreement committing him/her to work full time at Hays Medical Center after graduating and attaining (when applicable) a license, certification or registration.

An applicant must complete an ELAP application, which can be obtained from Hays Medical Center’s human resources department.

How to Apply for a Scholarship:
An applicant is required to complete the scholarship application. College transcripts and two (2) letters of reference from faculty members are also required. All application materials must be submitted to Hays Medical Center's human resources department by the appropriate deadline.

The Kansas Nursing Student Scholarship Program application can be obtained through the Hays Medical Center human resources department or by contacting the Kansas Board of Regents at 785-296-3518.

A personal interview with Hays Medical Center's scholarship selection committee may be required to determine recipient selection. Employment requirements are outlined in the individual scholarship information if required.

Hadley Foundation Nursing Fellowship Loan
Due to the national shortage of nurses, the Hadley Foundation has decided to offer substantial financial assistance to those seeking a career in the nursing field at North Central Kansas Technical College and Fort Hays State University.

Applications for North Central Kansas Technical College can be found at the Human Resource department at Hays Medical Center. Contact the Department of Nursing at Fort Hays State University for an application at 785-628-4255. Students in both programs must be enrolled in the nursing program and maintain a 3.0 GPA to be eligible to apply.

Recipients are required to complete one or a two year commitment of employment at Hays Medical Center after attaining appropriate licensure as a registered nurse to forgive the amount of loan given.
