Many factors can come into play in regards to HRT being appropriate for active women. These can include estrogen types and dosing and existing health concerns of the patient. Recent studies suggest HRT should not be used as primary prevention for CAD. As always, discussion with your healthcare provider is best.

How does drinking affect your cardiovascular risk?

Drinking in moderation, (1-2/day for women) may decrease risk of CAD and ischemic stroke, especially in people without CAD at baseline. However, binge drinking for people with known cardiac disease increases mortality risk by double. Chronic large amounts of alcohol may lead to heart failure. Best Answer…….moderation.

HDL is our good cholesterol. It can be detected with a lipid panel. The goal is 60. Best way to raise this is with exercise. Fish oil supplements are sources of heart healthy supplement that can lower triglycerides.

The body grows and reroutes helper blood vessels to provide blood flow to the area of the heart that is affected by blockages. It is just another way that the body compensates for lack of blood flow to a certain area. There is evidence that exercise promotes the development of collateral arteries

You should have a physical exam by a primary care provider prior to initiation of exercise is the recommendation. Simple walking to begin is an excellent way (and affordable) to begin an exercise regimen. Both aerobic and weight training are beneficial for women – include both.

Elevated blood pressure can cause nose bleeds. You need to determine if the blood pressure is high at the time of the nose bleed. Back pain versus cardiac problems: You always need to rule out cardiac causes.
