Inpatient Oncology
The Mission of Nursing in the In-Patient Oncology Unit is to optimize health by diagnosing the human response and intervening to support the person’s healing journey toward wellness or to a peaceful death.
We believe that nursing is an art and a science and that every person is a whole being with a mind, body, and a spirit. We provide care on an individual basis to insure a supportive, protective, and therapeutic environment. Nursing at Hays Medical Center is a division of comprehensive services that exists to provide nursing care and to serve the community. The practice of nursing at Hays Medical Center is the work of assisting individuals with movement toward maximum health, or assisting individuals with progress toward regaining their health, adapting to their reduced capabilities, or in coping with death. Nurses in the In-Patient Oncology Unit recognize the dignity and value of each unique human life.
The process of nursing is organized and systematic and involves an interdisciplinary team approach to assessing, diagnosing, goal setting, implementing the clinical care patient, and evaluating its effectiveness. This process is necessary to improve care and should be directed toward assisting the patient to reach an optimal state of informed self-care.
We believe in promotion of wellness and in the importance of teaching and encouraging good health practices and disease prevention. We believe that health is more than the abcense of disease. Health is a unity and harmony in the mind, body, and spirit. Continuing education of staff and professional growth is encouraged. It is important for the future of the profession that we are good role models to student nurses. We promote autonomy and accountability of the nurses and support decision making by those closest to the situation.
